This standard is intended to follow as much as possible the guidance of AIA standard, the National CAD Standard, and the US Government CAD Standard. Please add to this list 1) layers you are guessing about and 2) layers you often use that are in line with the guidance standards. Please edit this list 1) to bring it closer in line with the guidance standards or 2) to go in a whole new and better direction (though a comment on the talk page might be more courteous).

V- Prefix for layers created/owned by the Survey discipline All layers must have a discipline prefix
C- Prefix for layers created/owned by the Civil discipline All layers must have a discipline prefix
R- Prefix for layers created/owned by the Resource discipline This discipline is for layers created by tools
?-TOPO- Land form items including elevation contours Not for general existing items customarily called topography. Those go either on respective V- layers or are designated by the -E (Existing) or -D (demo) suffix
?-PRKG- Parking lot items These items are much the same as -ROAD- items
?-ROAD Road and street items These items are much the same as -PRKG- items
?-WATR Water system items
?-SSWR Sanitary sewer items
?-ELEC Electric line items
?-NGAS Natural gas line items
?-COMM Communication line items

SWCT Sawcut
